Memories Make the Scrapbook

Chronicling our lives is a custom that dates back to the days of the caveman. Of course the modern day scrapbooker has a much easier go of things in that they have such a variety of materials at their disposal to create their keepsakes.

Scrapbooks come in all shapes‚ sizes‚ themes‚ colors and materials. From baby books to vacation diaries to family trees there are many reasons to build a scrapbook. The album can commemorate an event or an entire life‚ a person or an entire family‚ and ultimately you are chronicling your lives just as the cavemen did.

Instead of a hammer and chisel or dye brewed from berry bushes‚ your scrapbooking efforts require things that you can get at an art supply or craft store. First you start with an album. Any size will do. They you need to fill it with pages‚ and any color or pattern will work just fine. Then you need to decorate the pages with pictures‚ photos‚ die cuts‚ colored pencils‚ pens‚ ribbons‚ buttons‚ glitter‚ and literally anything else that tells your story.

As you scrapbook more and more‚ you can add to your basic tools with punches‚ trimmers and decorative edge cutting scissors. As you practice putting pages together‚ you can experiment with different textures‚ colors and borders to create any look that you like.

Arranging you page is easier than ever with some of the newer adhesive choices. With one simple stroke‚ you can attach almost anything to your page. Spray adhesive can attach two entire pages together. Glue dots‚ sticks and foam squares make adding pictures and dimension to your page as easy as peel and stick. And one of the best additions to any scrapbooker’s collection is double sided tape. Always make sure that you use acid free adhesives‚ and pay attention to whether you are using a permanent or temporary adhesive.

Computers – A Great Scrapbooking Tool

One of the best tools to use when you are scrapbooking is your home computer. You can scan old letters‚ pictures and photos and edit the pictures to look any way that you want. Your digital camera can get the perfect image to add to your book‚ and photo editing software lets you enlarge‚ change colors‚ and crop pictures any way that you wish. And you can do all of this with a few clicks of the mouse.

Scrapbooking uses new materials and methods to make embellishing your album even more exciting. For example‚ the monks of yesteryear used parchment when they created their ornate manuscripts. With new materials you no longer are creating your parchment from an animal hide‚ but you can get the same beautiful‚ antique effect with modern materials such as vellum.

By combining elements of the past and present‚ you can create an aesthetic for your scrapbook that is uniquely your own. Whether you have every scrapbooking tool at your disposal or you simply have a glue stick and a pair of scissors‚ there is no limit to the beautiful albums that you can create to showcase you special memories.
