Scrapbook Patterns – Make Your Own
Probably the neatest thing about scrapbooking is that you have the chance to showcase your creativity. Once you get started you will probably find that you have many ideas that you want to put on the page‚ and that is when you can start making patterns of your own. You can make patterns on paper‚ with die–cuts‚ from plastic‚ out of metal or fashioned from ribbon or cloth. You get the point – a pattern can literally be made from anything.
A border is a great way to add some interest to any scrapbook page. You can create it by drawing it with pens‚ pencils or crayons. If you are not particularly artistic‚ you can use geometric shapes or even straight lines to pattern a border on your page. You may also choose to stencil a border.
You can design your own paper stock instead of buying pre–printed pages. For example‚ if you have photos of your Tahitian vacation‚ you may want to create your own sea and sky pattern. A pastel swath from one side of the page to the other on the top and foam green one on the bottom‚ and you have your own custom scrapbook page. Add seagull accents or some clouds or whitecaps and you get a beautiful effect.
While you can make patterns by drawing‚ you can also do it in other ways as well.
By piercing your paper in a pattern or design you can create beautiful designs. You can also fold the page and use several well placed holes to create a repetitive pattern. You can frame the holes with color or a design‚ and you can place the openings in such a way as to let a photo peek through. There are many different combinations of ideas that you can use to create special effects as you build your patterns.
A creative and fun scrapbook to put together is a baby theme book. You can make tiny curtains to cover baby’s first photo. Simply take a piece of thin fabric and sew a pocket along the top edge. You can cut a piece of baby’s outgrown clothing and use the hem for your pocket. Then simply string a piece of thread through the pocket and glue it to the page like a curtain rod. You can build a whole gallery this way.
Ribbon is a great material to use in a baby’s scrapbook. You can use pastels‚ bright and bold colors or even patterns. Ribbon is great for framing photos or even the entire page. You can weave ribbon to make patterns within your patterns or embellish with a simple bow.
If you have a computer you can use it to make patterns that might be too hare for you to draw freehand. There are any number of graphics available online or you can take a photo and trace it into a graphic rendering. You can use photo–editing programs to manipulate photos to your liking‚ and then make your patterns from that. Then you can print and crop to add interest to your page.
There really is no limit‚ other than your imagination‚ when you are designing a page for your scrapbook. So do not feel like you have to buy patterns when you probably have plenty of ideas to make your own.
