Scrapbooking Supplies – What You Need to Get Started
When you start scrapbooking‚ it can be an expensive proposition if you run out and buy all sorts of special equipment. However‚ it can also be very inexpensive as you are starting out. With just a few basic supplies‚ you can begin scrapbooking and have as much fun doing it as a pro. To start‚ you will need a place to keep all of your fabulous pages‚ so begin with any scrapbooking album.
When you are selecting your album‚ really any size that appeals to you will work just fine. There are two standard sizes‚ which you may want to consider because fitting your pages may be a little easier. These are 8.5 x 11 inches and 12 x 12 inches. However‚ you could make a tiny 3 x 5–inch album or a giant 8.5 x 11–inch album as well. You should be able to find a nice album for about $10 (maybe even less on sale).
You can find paper in literally any size that you need; so if you find an odd sized album that you just love‚ do not let that stop you. A great resource for supplies is also your local art store where you can find a huge selection of papers‚ paints‚ glues and embossing powders.
After the album and paper‚ you will need good scissors that are sharp and fit your hand correctly. You may find that a Xacto knife also comes in really handy. If you have a paper trimmer‚ you will certainly be able to use it‚ but if now‚ the scissors and Xacto knife will work just fine.
Scrapbooking – You are Surrounded by Inspiration
Since you will undoubtedly be cutting interesting shapes to use when embellishing your page‚ you will need a cutting template when you want uniform shapes. Instead of buying templates and French curve rulers‚ look for items around your house that you can use as a template. For example‚ a glass or a bowl makes a great template for rounded corners‚ and the edge of a spiral notebook adds a nice ripple to any page. Look around and be creative.
Frequently you will want to have some decorative writing on your page. For this you will need a few good pens or pencils. You can have as many or few colors as you wish‚ but start with just a few of the basics and grow your collection from there. You can change the perception of an ink color by simply writing on a different color paper. You will be surprised at the varied looks that you can create using just a few colors of ink.
Now you will need some tape and glue. One of the best inventions of all time is double sided tape. It is quick‚ neat‚ easy to use‚ and it does not need to dry. Of course glue is also an option‚ and there are plenty of good paper glues available at your craft store. So see which type of adhesive you prefer‚ and whether it is glue dots‚ glue stick‚ tape or plain old glue‚ they will all help you create a fabulous page.
If you do most of your work on a computer‚ then you will want to try different styles of paper for printing. You will also want to preserve your memories digitally by copying them to a CD or a thumb drive. The advantage to digital albums is that you cal also add sound‚ so baby’s first step can be accompanied by baby’s first word. All of this will make a wonderful collection of memories for you and your family.
