Tools for Scrapbooking

While it is fun to invent your own scrapbooking tools‚ it is also fun to have some specialized tools to make the job easier and the finished product crisper.

Of course the first tool that you will need is a good pair of scissors. Find ones that fit properly in your hand. While there is a huge variety of scissors available to choose from‚ find the ones that work for you. You may want to get very sharp points so that you can fit into all sorts of tight corners‚ or you may prefer rounded ends for safety.

After scissors you will probably want to use an Xacto knife. Some shapes‚ especially as they become more intricate‚ are easier to cut on a cutting board than with scissors. So that would be the next tool that you would want to invest in‚ and that is a good cutting board or mat. This will save scrapes and gouges in your good furniture.

Next you will probably want to invest in a straight edge trimmer. This tool allows you to cut a straight‚ clean line in one swoop. You can find very expensive trimmers that adjust to all sorts of dimensions‚ or you can find simple ones that simply cut a straight line.

Adding a hole-punch to your tool collection can come in handy for designing‚ mounting and adding a page to your book. You can use you hole-punch in place of a three-hole punch and use it to add your pages to your scrapbook. You can add holes to pictures for mounting or for adorning with ribbons.

A three-hole punch is great for adding pages to your book. If you get an adjustable one‚ then you can fit any album size. You can also use your three-hole punch to punch a single hole in a card or photo for mounting.

A cropping tool is also a very handy addition to your scrapbooking tool collection. It is primarily used to crop photos‚ and while you can survive without one‚ once you have one you will wonder how you ever lived without it.

If you are jumping into scrapbooking in a big way‚ you can get a machine that will crop your pictures for you. Many of these machines will also create letters‚ shapes and beautiful cut outs that you can use for embellishments. These machines generally work with paper or vinyl‚ and they can create a huge variety of cut out shapes and adornments.

Then if you have a family logo‚ crest or initials‚ you may want to get a stamp that is personalized with your personal design. These are available as die cuts as well. The design can be anything‚ but the fun thing about it is that it is a one of a kind‚ so it is in essence‚ your scrapbooking signature. In this same vein‚ you could also get a heat tool and embossing powder‚ and permanently add your embossed stamp almost anywhere.

Of course you will also want a collection of acid free pens‚ pencils‚ stencils and templates that let you create fun designs to compliment the pictures in your scrapbook.
